Shadow of the Fae: A Fated Mates Fae Romance (Shadow Court Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.8 out of 5 stars 580 ratings

I'm a broke antiques dealer. He's a Fae king. And he claims I'm his fated mate. Wait. What?

My life is a mess. I run a failing antiques shop, drink way too much coffee, and suffer from an 80s cartoon addiction. So, when a hot-as-hell stranger appears out of nowhere and rips me from my normal life, I don’t know whether to be relieved or furious.

You see, that hot-as-hell stranger isn’t human. He’s Fae. And not just
any Fae, but King of the Shadow Court, and he claims I hold the key to averting a war between my world and his. But that’s not the weirdest thing he’s told me.

He also says I’m his fated mate.

He wants me and he’ll do anything to get me – even if it means igniting the very war he swore to avoid.

If I go with him I know my life will never be the same again. But I don't think I can resist. And do I even want to? Oh, heck. What would you do?

Shadow of the Fae is a fated mates fantasy romance full of sexy Fae males, sizzling magic and searing passion. If you like your romance full of high-octane adventure, danger and spice then this is for you. This is book 1 in the Shadow Court series – a complete trilogy.

Asha gets an antique that she thinks is worthless, but two men hunt
her down for it, saying it is a sacred trinket before she is saved by
a mysterious man named Raven. He takes her with him to a world
unknown to plan his next move. Must read.

The worldbuilding was bland at best, with unnecessary explanations combined with lackluster concepts and lack of impactful communication between the main characters. The characters were basically the typical cardboard. Lots of eye rolling, but it didn't quite manage to get all the way to the point of just putting it down and moving on. Not bothering with any further books.

This book had a heroine that was out of her depth & instead of being smart, she would repeatedly bungle Ravens plans and create situations where Raven would have to rescue her (again) from the bad guys. She was like a Chihuahua trying to attack a Rottweiler... Ridiculous and annoying.

The book was very good but I felt like the two MC s really didn't have much relationship building other them there misunderstandings and arguments. But the detail around the far realm was enlightenment for the second book

The characters were slightly basic and the storyarch was predictable and rushed. It's more of a story you read if you are killing time but what saves it is that it's a fae and human romance.

While out looking for antiques to buy and sell in her shop. Asha finds a funny looking round piece of metal with runes on it. It looks intriguing so she buys it but later that day two men appear in her shop calling it the Orb of Tir and they destroy her shop and try to kill her for it, but another man rescues her. She learns they are fae from another realm and her rescuer needs to stop the men who have the Orb because they want to tear down the veil between the mortal world and the fae world and they want to make humans their slaves. Now she and Raven are on a mission. She can’t go back because her store is destroyed and she wouldn’t be safe. But every time she touches Raven she gets these feelings and mental pictures. What is going on? Raven pushes her away even though she sees desire in his eyes. Can Asha and Raven stop the tow Unseelie before they find a portal back to the fae realm? They must because the fate of humans rest in their hands. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a well written novel . The characters are well developed as are the world's in which it takes place.

An antiques dealer, a Fae prince, and at least two assassins makes this an exciting ride.

Can the unlikely pairing of a Fae and a human manage to overcome their deadly opponents?

Can they learn to trust each other enough to join forces?.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 6, 2021
I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal romance for its fascinating characters and neat, concise plot. Baker's writing is descriptive without being too wordy. The pace is brisk and describes a rollercoaster of emotions. Asha and Raven are intriguing characters whose relationship develops into a climatic resolution! Humour and love, tragedy and mystery are all part of this spell binding read. Can't wait for book 2 to arrive!
